NICOLE HALLETT, A FELLOW in our foreign policy thi...: "The moment on the roof was ethereal, but it was I who was the ghost, swooping in from another world to which I would shortly return. Most people here view the United States as akin to Paradise and equally unreachable in this life. Yet, life does goes on. Another child is born. Another dies of fever in the middle of the night. And another still is given a chance at making more of herself than the world ever intended. "(Via OxBlog.)
Screw wondering if you should tell your child about 9/11. How about the rest of the world?
I waffle about this kind of thing. I do tell her that where we are is as much fortune of birth, where we are as anything else. She's got that kid thing of wanting to fix problems. She ain't even seen the map yet.
It always amazes me, how people can deal with stuff that would just snap me. Losing children "casually" (I'm sure it's not actually casual. You know what I mean).
Anytime I bitch about my life....
