The news helicopters are flying around overhead. Apparently there is a big fire at an abandoned warehouse south of downtown San Jose. I saw a little coverage on the TV, but the story hasn't made the newspaper websites yet. I can't see any smoke from here, so I am guessing that its at least a mile away (south of Story Road).
Helicopter spotting is one of the ways that you can find news.

The Coral Reef Alliance is linking to an article describing 500 MY old fossil jellyfish.
In geology, it is news any time you find fossils of organisms like jellyfish that don't have any hard parts (ie shells, teeth, or bones).
