Whitey the Mascot. This is good stuff, a story about a basketball team adopting "Whitey" as the team mascot. I applaud the moxie of Americans who "lift the curtain" on American life. When we get intoxicated with our patriotic rapture we lose sight that, passing through our culture - right under the florid patriotism - is an ugly streak of meanness. [Democratic Vistas]
Then again, everyone is probably making too much out of this story. After all it is just an intramural team. I've been on a few intramural teams with provocative names, the PissAnts, the Flaming Shitheals, and the Spud Fuckers. The last team won a IM floor hockey championship, with our motto "poke an eye out".
