I am not sure how I pulled this off, but next month Michele and I are going to be in the second row at a Lyle Lovett concert in San Jose. I haven't been to a concert in years. The excitement of a big sound in a big venue died long ago. When I go to a concert, I want to see and hear the musicians.
The last two concerts I went to were Shawn Mullins at Flint Center and Los Lobos at Mtn Winery. Mtn Winery is a great venue, you are basically sitting with the musicians. Flint Center is borderline, if you are close enough the the stage it can be great. We weren't.
San Jose's Center for Performing Arts is similar in size to Flint Center. The second row should be great. I haven't seen Lyle in concert before, but I have wanted to for a long time. I missed him at Mtn Winery a couple of years ago and I am still kicking myself for that. So, I'm excited.

Congressman: Change NCAA Champ Series (AP). AP - Days into the new college football season, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Thursday the system in which a national collegiate champion is determined needs to be changed. [Yahoo! News - Top Stories]
Let me see if I've got this straight. The US is running up record deficits, we are engaged in two smoldering wars, there is record unemployment, the administration is gutting environmental laws, and congress wants to weigh in on the way the college football picks its national champion.
Hello? Is anybody home?
It might just be me, but I think that there are more pressing matters than NCAA football. Afterall, we still have a month of Baseball left! If Congress wants to engage in trivial pursuits, they can at least spend their time doing something useful, like outlawing the designated hitter.
