Oh Joy,
I may get some recourse for Microsoft's monopoly, perhaps. The convicted monopolist will provide up to $1.1 billion in vouchers for Microsoft software and hardware to residents of California. Funny, this doesn't seem to help if I want to buy a competitors product.
Since I have avoided Microsoft products for the last 10 years, my potential for claims are minimal. I should be able to claim $16 for Windows 95 that came with Virtual PC. But wait, the settlement states, "You cannot make a claim for Microsoft software that was purchased for use on Apple computers or for Microsoft operating systems used on computer servers."
So I am shut out of the settlement just be cause I use a Mac. As near as I can tell, this settlement is horseshit. The State of California and the Class Council (Townsend and Townsend and Crew, LLP, P.O. Box 2837, San Francisco, CA 94126-2837) has bought us a load of shit.
I think that the only solution is to implement the people's settlement. Microsoft is a convicted monopolist. Since our courts will not implement effective punishment, the people should. The people should freely distribute any and all Microsoft products that they possess.
