Tuesday night was immensely enjoyable. Michele and I avoided the election news and went to see Lyle Lovett at the Center for Performing Arts in San Jose.

It was a great show. Lyle opened the show with a number of songs off his new album. I bought the album this morning, so I am in the process figuring out what he played. The second half of the set was a selection of earlier songs including, "If I had a Boat", "Give Back My Heart", "That's Right (You're Not From Texas)", "Her First Mistake". He closed with a couple of gospel numbers before an encore of "Church" and "She Ain't No Lady".

Our seats were great, the last two seats on the right hand side of the second row, with just the stage in front of us. One of Lyle's monitors blocked the steel guitar player, but we could see everyone else.

Lyle's band, like his music, is a little bit different, with a string bass, chelo, and fiddle along with the percussionists, guitars and piano. The solos were fun, at one point, the chelist had his instrument sounding like an electric guitar. Not to be out done, the guitarist in front of us responded by producing chelo like sounds.

Lyle played for two hours straight (over 20 songs plus jams). It was a wonderful distraction from the days events. If you missed it, you are sorry today.
