After suffering several weeks of 300+ spam messages a day, we are suddenly back to a "reasonable" 100+ spam messages. Apparently the virus programs that were generating hundreds of bogus messages from fictitious addresses in my domain have died. Now I can just deal with the run of the mill spam.
