SJ Hospital to Shut Down After 80 Years. Posted: September 8, 2004 at 6:10 p.m. Updated: September 8, 2004 at 8:02 p.m. SAN JOSE (BCN) -- San Jose Medical Center announced Wednesday that it would close its doors by Dec. [San Jose, CA - Topix.net]
The hospital's owners have done their best to keep the community off balance. First they were going to close it at some point in the future, then they said they might keep it open, followed by it will close in 2006, and now this. Downtown San Jose will be scrambling for emergency care until a replacement is found.
HCA's solution is the expand Regional Medical Center 2.4 miles from downtown. But that expansion is still in the EIR phase and will not be completed by the time they shut down San Jose Medical. This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
