You can't just flip flop on issues. It requires thought and knowledge of the issues. It requires that you start from one point of view and then after you get more information altering your view in light of the new data.

This is Science. Collect data, make an interpretation, and then test your interpretation by collecting more data. If the new data don't fit your interpretation, then you change your interpretation to account for the new data.

You can contrast this with blind allegiance, where you develop a point of view and then stick with it regardless of what the data say. It is blind allegiance to say invading Iraq was right when all of the data to support the invasion has turned out to be wrong. It is blind allegiance to say that our President is right to ban stem-cell research, when there is overwhelming evidence that it can save lives.

It was blind allegiance that made 19 people kill themselves while crashing four planes into buildings and a field, killing nearly 3000 people.

Given the choice, I think that I would go with someone who flip flops.
