Apple launches iMac G5 Troubleshooting Assistant. As the new iMac G5 makes its way to customers, Apple has added an iMac G5 Troubleshooting Assistant to its online support area. The system starts with broad issues, such as "When I press the power button, something unexpected happens," and then asks questions with more detailed answers to refine the problem until it's solved. If users don't get the proper solution, they can click a button to talk to a support agent online. Apple notes that it can send a Do-It-Yourself repair kit, complete with the necessary replacement parts, to fix most issues. [MacCentral News]

This sounds like it might help my father, who is struggling with his new iMac G5. Part of the problem is the migration to OS X. The new OS isn't as familiar as the old one. Also there are some settings difficulties, He can send email, but not receive it (or vice versa). I am guessing that the email client isn't configured correctly.

I will go down over the weekend to see if I can get him on track. Hopefully, I can get him to the point where he appreciates OS X as much as I do. I need to get him running on the OS X versions of software that he currently runs, otherwise he will be a perpetually stuck in classic mode. So I will introduce him Canvas 8, Office 2004, and AppleWorks 6. Hopefully, I can get him up and working on his new machine by Monday.
