radioShark is finally here and it is nice. radioShark provides TIVO like capabilities for radio. It is a radio receiver with a USB connection to your computer. Software controls the receiver and has a typical radio interface. You can scan the bands for stations and set specific stations that you can jump to. The plus is that it has recording capabilities. So I record the past hour of radio and can go back to listen to that record. While listening to the record, you can also skip commercials and other fluff. radioShark's recording capabilities will be great next year when the San Jose Giants play.

For now, I am playing with the recording capabilites. I have scheduled radioShark to record KFOG's 10@10, NPR's Talk of the Nation, Science Friday, and NPR's Car Talk. The recordings are added to iTunes, so I can listen to them when ever I want to. This is bad news for my Audible.com subscription.

Let's be clear, radioShark is not TIVO. TIVO has a much better interface. Working through a cranky TIVO remote is easier than controlling radioShark with a keyboard. My opinion may improve after use and learning. But it isn't this difficult with TIVO.

Also, my TIVO box has two receivers, which means that I can record on one channel while recording on another. radioShark doesn't have this capability and I miss it.

But, I like radioShark, it gets good reception in my office (which isn't the case with my stereo), and I am listening to the radio more than I did before radioShark.
