I called my brother this evening, we started talking, and as usual the call quickly deteriorated. It deteriorated because we started chatting with iChat. It is close to impossible to type while holding a phone to your ear.

Ken has a new computer with a .Mac account for 30 days. We had talked about using iChat in the past, but now we both had accounts and could fully test it. Our text chatting quickly evolved to an audio chat session where we discussed video chatting. A few moments later, we had both hooked up our video cameras.

Then, I could see Ken and Mara (my niece) and they could see Yolo (the kitten). It all just worked. I have never done video conferencing before and am amazed at how simple it is.

It is something out of 2001. It ain't manned missions to Jupiter, but it is still pretty cool.

It is official, Yolo is the kittens name. The name rolls off the tongue better than the other choices and more people voted for it. What can I say, democracy works. Anyway the kitten is happily laying next to the keyboard as I type this. Staring intently at each character is typed. Occasionally she rolls back onto the escape key causing the computer to "pop" as MarsEdit doesn't know how to handle an escape.
