Michele and I went to Monterey yesterday to help celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday.
As part of the trip, we were also hoping to see the great white shark at the aquarium and my Dad's new iMac g5 (17" with 512M RAM). We didn't get to see the shark, but we were impressed by the iMac.
This is a nice machine. It is very responsive (it is faster and smoother than my dual 1Gz G4 machine), the display is fantastic, and the sound is impressive. It also looks good on a desk.
My only nit was with the mouse, after a couple of years with a two button/scroll wheel mouse, Apple's single button mouse doesn't cut it.
Pop has had some difficulties getting it set up and running correctly, mostly because of inexperience with OS X. So I fixed the configurations so he could continue to use his existing earthlink account and set up his mail so he was using the correct servers to both send and receive mail. We also got Classic installed so he can continue to use his existing applications.
Then I gave him a little tour of what you can do with the machine. I popped in a CD, iTunes launched, retrieved and filled in the track information, and started playing Beethoven's 9th. Eject the CD and drop in a DVD, the DVD Player starts up and we watch a bit of the Two Towers. Finally, I plug in my USB flash stick and iPhoto pops up and displays some recent photos that I took of Syrah. Throughout the demonstration, Pop's jaw dropped further and further. I think that he is going to like it.
