My father and I had a long conversation this morning. It started with earthquakes and quickly moved beyond. He is pessimistic about the up-coming election. I can't say that I blame him.
He and I both agree that what happened 30 years ago is inconsequential to what is happening today. He also pointed out that 12 years ago, this country accepted that a draft dodger could become President.
So lets put the 30 year old war records behind us.
The president dodged the draft, get over it. I would have done the same if I were in his shoes.
What happened 30 year ago isn't important. What happened in the last 4 years is. The US was attacked, the economy tanked, the deficit mushroomed, we invaded two countries, and we are mired in an occupation of a hostile country. George Bush led us to this point.
Is he to blame, not entirely. But he has had nearly 4 years to fix these problems and has not. I have no confidence that his administration can fix the problems. It is time for a change.
John Kerry may be no better, but he can't be any worse.
