there are great talk shows and good educational programs on tv. yes, tv. wow.
i'd like to watch 'em in 50..75% of their linear time by way of a dvr that can downpitch the audio proportional to the speed increase... is there a dvr that does that? a sw only solution? ... oy, where to look.. |

i got overnighters down to 2 over xmas, avg sleep times hovering around 8hrs, late nights nominal. 'ts been 22 years.
i'm still a recovering geek, came close to a relapse last weekend but stopped myself halfway into rewriting a look-ahead pos function.
breathing is good. body is good, human relations are good.. heck, fun is good! that's simple enough. |

a friend wrote in to tell me that she liked the dream scribbles. i was a bit unprepared for that.
a) i have at least one friend, b) i have at least one reader, c) that someone liked what i wrote, d) that that someone did not run in horror, e) that she liked the on-the-linbness, f) that she was tired of what seemed like all geek stuff.
thanks d! |

Trading Places, C.E.O. Does Mrs. Mom "..And what I learned is that the only thing worse is independence. "
indendence is worse than dependence. why? because you're alone. if you map it around a bit you get to the lone ranger thing, myths and dreams of family utopias. 50s idea one and all. not entirely, but close.
the word of the day is 'interdependence'.. then tomorrow we practice 'mutuality'.
psychopathy worse than orality leading to genitality. nice move mrs mom! |

How Citigroup Hedged Bets Against Enron an evolution of the loan-syndication market .. dont just parcel out tranches but spin off your risk by packing tranches as bonds. smart people. how they knew? they just did. information is rarely if ever symetrical and the signs were in barrons earlier than their first bond issue. neato way of packaging money though.. |

quick bandwidth self-test:
start talking fast. about anything that you see. describe one object and everything that comes to mind about it; enumerate objects; describe sensations. keep it real, make it vivid, it does not matter what speak of.
do not pause, do not make uh's, ah's, ehm's. how long can you keep it going? how do you stop yourself? do you stop yourself? what kind of games are you playing as you are describing? are you surprising yourself? ..or are you following made-up rules?
if after a few minutes of this you have not surprised yourself, start over. there is something you are doing that blocks you from surprising yourself.
this exercise builds bridges in the brain. its credited to Win Wenger who will walk you through a more complex variety of this thing at the link given.
for now, see if you can surprise yourself by what you say. if you can get there, you can get there again.. and you can know that you will be able to participate in other high bandwidth (post-language?) activities.
this is a learned thing. really. ok.. an unlearning thing. give it a go. talk. talk about the thing on your mind while walking backwards to your parking spot without pausing. you will surprise yourself. that's high bandwidth.

Singularity : Singularity: Knowledge Networks and IA: " Human minds need to go online. The first step to this I believe is Weblogging" intelligence amplification.
i like this guy, his site, etc. his points are well made and stand by themselves. e.g. i can read the whole month and get excited about it :) ..
but! from my soabbox here i'm commenting that "Human Minds" can not go online as peers and producers unless they are trained to, umm, perform in the matrix. there are bandwidth limitations (judgements) and built-in feedback loops (neurosis) which will have to be addressed on the interpersonal and organic levels - *communication* inabilities resolved, on everything, including taboo's and fears - that will hamper breakthroughs at the levels he envisions.
initially this vision may bring something to people well versed in communicating about their own specialities.. email already does a lot of that.. but augmenting facilities, further stratifying society.. is not going to go toward singularity or education.
yes, yes, i would like to have immersive multimedia training in everything.. but the simple organismic ways in which we all just want to be happy - have to be owned by the users and reinforced by the system.. else it'll be the madness of the rings. he did need help from his friends, yes? .. same thing for preping the inner plumbing needed to utilize this new dimension of interacting humanly. post-language == energetics/flow. |

Singularity : Singularity: Lord of the Rings: " Maybe it was just me, but when I watched the Lord of the Rings, I got the distinct impression that it was being recast as a cautionary tale about technology. Here is some fun analysis."
Check this out. cool weblog. good science news. gonna go see if he's written up the matrix like this.. you know, shifting down the cabalistic worlds by one so that you can film the goings on.. there all of concensus perception is revealed to be made up by a self-serving machine orthogonal to the classic inside the machine view shown by the hobbits. |

[ Garth's dbs] Another one of Michael Ax' special not-sure-whether-to-post-or-not items..
a-its really neat to see 'my name in links', b-i notice, c-i promise not to care, d-anything posted is the past, e-i dont have to like the past, f-i'm glad there's translators, g-i'm open to change my mind on anything, just takes a good talking to.
and the reason the baby's dont learn when you don't speak is... there is no energetic entrainment taking place. you have to model the emotional/life-energy current to the tyksters for them to 'grok' the channel.. for words in this case, anything, really. works just like the transformers on the power poles outside. no entrainment, no resonance, no induction. the fact that language is learned is superfluous to the resonance. this is in part why behaviourism is such effective bull.
energetic entrainment.. from there you rock the world. ... but garth, hey, thanks for the plug anyway! |

gotta use them more, like right after google. lets make a link. ok. ..updated my contacts page with the email spam-wrapper mentioned by rogi and got reminded of them. now you have a link to my favorite printer on the contacts page. why? it just worked out that way.
spam-- speaking of spam. and using it... this page still works! its fun for hiding payloads in what looks like spam.
anyway, rogi, also look at this, this, this & this email spam wrapper ancestor service. the last two are the geekiest. |

Game exchange dispute goes to court - Tech News - CNET.com
interesting news-bit. kinda would have thought to read this about everquest first, but there you have it... a law suit in need of a definition of ePers. epers are the brainchild of curtis karnow who lucidly argues for their legal recognition in "Future Codes".
if the law was clear on eproperty rights.. these include privacy and the need to get paid for one's information (i think) -- this lawsuit would be about something more than the lowest common denonminator. it would be a test and validation of the rights of epers.
so, yes, i think the owners of accounts are not the players. just like you are not your job. got that? you dont have root-access, your job-role has it.

disinformation | ralph abraham " The chaos revolution is primarily important because chaos is everywhere. For some reason there was an historical accident, and for six thousand years people repressed chaos to the unconscious."
this isnt quite it, sorry. nosimpler does not reduce to chaos. its about perspective.. and where you perceive from. like from 'the edge' to use another 'ax' metaphor. its about a stable p.o.v. while remaining transparent to the noise. perhaps this gets easier to reason by looking at how the ego decides? to keep desirable traits. how does the ego keep desirable traits? its not all about need fulfillment, is it? |

we gotta do something about complexity.. i mean, i do. find out about people studying it, to see what benchmarks _they use to identify when something is too complex.
simple is beautiful. regardless of size. but with size comes complexity.. we know how to anticipate that. the first and maybe second layering of it anyhow. with large things, sideways connections will and do creep in lowering system happiness, unless checked... by some clear systems reasoning on why to not complexify.
democracy is not a good idea in complexifying systems.. will of the instinct.. that sort of thing.. mediocrazy, addtls rents sought of value generators..
things have to be simple, but no simpler than to be us no good to their own complexity.. something like that.
yeah, i'm not being really scientific here. screw that. too complex. the simple enough just is. somewhere out/in there we can find a better definition. decent boundaries. .. but it all comes back to the perceivers, the perceptual mechanisms we use, the built-in carrot-sticks we use to reinforce ancient complications.
people master domains for their own reasons. i code because i want a glove to shape my own thinking with, to be able to model understanding. i've done it long enough to prototype in life, first with people, now with organizations.
still there are some knots to ax. and i need a poo-level clue right about now. time for a walk. |

i find nothing more challenging than working sense into 'california think' companies.
i've met one today, reeling from how the owners let 'processing' creep into the machine, how it marginalizes producers who loose track of job-requirements and everyday routines and procedures when interpersonal bliss becomes a goal for people at the top of the organization. there's a maskiness, a new-age political correctness, a fear.. and a sadness when you realize that instead of a business people were trying to build families. no matter what the value, if you're trying to build a family amongst your people then you're not building a business. not when you're 'processing' your vision away instead of letting go of hardworking stupid people. you get a family by using everybody the way they are best used. and you still go home to yours.
some ideas are just too big to run them just from the heart. you need a smart heart more often than not. that's just not in california think yet.

Hacking your Wetware. Some think that the ultimate hack, rooting your brain, is futile without the sort of advanced and theoretical technology that would come from the imaginations of overzealous sci-fi geeks. This is not true. All it takes is a little dedication, time, a journal, and some practice. Through lucid dreaming, one can obtain the ultimate access to one's totally unsecured and vulnerable psyche. Read on for a personal account (if I can do it, you can too, trust me...) some helpful tips, and lots of links. This is meant as mild to intermediate introduction to lucid dreaming. [ kuro5hin.org]
to me, my brookstone snooze light is the thing. it will sound a snooze alarm every 5 minutes for as long as you manage to hit it. its loud, it gets nastier as it beeps, it doesnt stop. and the snooze has no timeout which means you can use this thing for dream-surfing, right out of the box. simply set for n*90mins after when you go to sleep. 7:30hrs works for me. when the thing goes off, snooze it and stay in a hover near the sleep state. it impossible to lie to yourself or move from a fragment of all of you. you'll scare yourself back into sleep.. or burst out of bed with zeal.. or get stuck in robot dreams at that edge.. eventually you notice how the energy/intention of all of you moves perceptions there and you have become a dream-surfer. try staying out of unfolding news stories and other people's lives then, you can form some bonds from there that'll ache later.
another way to learn dream-surfing would be with a device that rings a bell/chime/alarm when you stop holding 2 wires together. this works great at night and is a bit more rigorous in the mornings than snooze surfing. the intention required to use a 'not-wire' alarm works well with a voice-activated recorder to let you track fragements from that state.. which is pretty much the best training place to get to speaking from subtle perceptions. with the wires there also is a greater immediacy as you get feedback everytime you cross the border even the least bit sloppily.
having ambient music or environmentals louder than random outside noises helps prolong and deepen this if you've got the knack, but you can't make yourself get it by lulling your senses. you're training laser light attention inside a light-bulb like awareness, nothing will 'just happen', you make it happen and can can notice how youre doing it.
yeah. first the energy, then the concrete thoughts. we all have 'shower moments' where an idea is crisp and concretly detailed in thought.. as an image that quickly fades. inside these images appear when you slice a current that otherwise carries you. something like that. anyway, heads up, good stuff, i want to see more of it here. |
