I'm (It's) Back
Whew!
Almost two weeks ago, my ThinkPad died one morning. The night before, I had discharged the battery totally, as one is supposed to do with these Lithium Ion things. The next morning I tried to start laptop and it wouldn't come up: no sign of power at all, even with a backbup battery, and plugged in. I hauled it to the local shop, and the power jack connection to the motherboard was bad. So it took them nearly two weeks to fix that.
I had just done a backup of the My Documents folder (this machine runs Win 2K). But two key programs, Radio Userland (which, of course, drives this blog) and Palm Desktop don't keep their docs there, so they didn't get backed up. I hate it when you have to special-case software. In the interim I've been doing most of my work on my iMac, with some use of an older Dell Laptop running (horrors) Win 98.
I'll have lots of thoughts about platforms, backups, etc. over the next couple days, plus a lot of stuff I've been reading since then. Stay tuned...
