The Ralph Stanley Story
I'm watching this Dr. Ralph Stanley Documentary on WorldLink. It does a real nice job of capturing all sides of the man, with lots of footage. Though it's dated 2000, it seems like some of the footage is a few years earlier than that. I saw him 2000, and it seems like his son looked a lot older then. This has some blistering versions of Little Maggie, and Man of Constant Sorrow among others, along with some wonderful TV performances from the 60s, including some home movies ("now, see Carter there, he's got himself a biscuit"). The guy's a real treasure.
I've also been watching Lost Highway, The History of American Country on Trio. Some fanastic footage of the Carter Family and Louvin Brothers, along with Bill Monroe and Ralph & Carter Stanley in the first episode. Both highly recommended.
(Note the best Stanely site is http://drralphstanley.com/index.shtml, instead of the one at Sony/Columbia that usually pops up first. The Sony one is lousy -- for instance, there's no current tour information posted on that site, but there's a lot of it on the Clinch Moutain site.)

Ambrosia releases free WireTap audio utility. Ambrosia Software Inc. has released a new audio utility called WireTap. Designed for Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar or later, WireTap enables users to record any audio playing on the Mac -- whether it's an audio stream from an Internet radio station, sound from DVD Player, game audio, iChat AV conversations, or more. Released as freeware, WireTap works using a tape recorder-style interface, according to Ambrosia. You click the Record button and any audio playing through your Mac will be recorded to disk, regardless of the source. [MacCentral]
