Interview: Skeptic Michael Shermer Answers (Part I). Part II SciScoop has a couple of nice long interviews with Michael Shermer, editor and publisher of Skeptic Magazine, and author of a couple of very interesting books. In the responses there are plenty of the expected ad hominem attacks from those who want to believe, it seems, anything. But there's also a link to CSICOP's review of the Skeptical Environmentalist.

Atheism is the most irrational and illogical religion on the planet [FARK]
Alas, the link, as I write, doesn't bring up anything. But two answers for this one: 1) except for all the others and 2) atheism isn't a religion.

100 Suns [Scientific American]
Here's a nice short review of the new Michael Light book. His Full Moon of a few years ago is a gorgeous compendium of photos from the various missions in the 60s; it's the first time these photos have received the attention they deserve, and is very highly recommended. This collection of photos of early A-tests looks very striking, too.

It's also nice to see Philip Morrison writing book reviews, even though they're very short. His long reviews used to be a staple of Scientific American and were always worth a good study. I knew him as a book reviewer long before I knew about his contributions to science.

I love these old paperback covers. I have a copy of the paperback of Gresham's great Nightmare Alley that's shown on this site, and several others as well.
