Thought for the day:
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks

The Airport Adventure. Rachael Anne Fajardo at Strike the Root -
The Airport Adventure - an 18-year-old's experience of airport
"security". [safeskies]
I will not smilingly comply to be searched.Ê That is an incredible violation of my personal space and privacy.Ê I was shocked when the woman at the Tyler airport flipped through my journal; no one but me has even touched that precious book since I bought it.Ê I couldn't believe that the people in Dallas were so happy and friendly to be "doing their job" by searching an eighteen year old girl on her way back to school.Ê And I'm glad that I cried; I'd be willing to bet that they'd never had someone get upset about being searched.Ê You never see anyone who's interviewed on the news say it's humiliating and pointless.Ê But it is. [End the War on Freedom]
I suspect other people say that in interviews. However, since the media is completely on the government's side, no interview like that makes it to TV.

Apple Newton Research
We are seeking volunteers to participate in an academic study on the Apple Newton community. We have some questions below that we would like you to answer. We are interested in the ways in which Newton owners use their Newtons and how they interact with other Newton owners. The results of this study might give you some insight into the ways other people use their Newtons and how this community operates (We'll be posting my interpretations of the data here as the study progresses so you can comment on them). More generally, it should provide insight into the ways in which people derive value from what they consume.

Would the real Yasir Arafat please stand up?. Yasir Arafat may well be the most bewildering and complex man to dance on the worlds' political stage since the start of the cold war. On one hand we have a man that publicly proclaims his desire for peace with Israel in the New York Times, on the other hand we have a man that also publicly stated the following after signing the Oslo peace accord with Israel: "I don't consider the agreement any more than the agreement which was signed by our prophet Mohammad and the Qurayish," To take this into context, consider this from WorldNetDaily: "Mohammad signed a peace agreement with the Qurayish Jews who lived in Mecca, until his Islamic warriors were strong enough to conquer them." So I must ask; Would the real Yasir Arafat please stand up? [kuro5hin.org]
I don't think it makes any difference whether Arafat is still a terrorist (and I personally think he is). If he's not a terrorist, then he has no control over the people who are. Either he doesn't want peace (because he's a terrorist), or he can't provide peace (because he's not), but either way it's pointless to negotiate with him.
Sharon didn't call him "irrelevant" because he thinks Arafat is a terrorist, he said that because he's irrelevant either way.

February 2002: Winter. Jeff Cooper's Commentaries -
February 2002: Winter - Some more gems from the guru.
Recently an anecdote was passed around involving the teaching of
marksmanship at a summer camp. A critic suggested to the operator of
this activity that the teaching of marksmanship might be considered
"irresponsible." The proper answer here, in my opinion, is that not
teaching marksmanship to an adolescent would be irresponsible. [End the War on Freedom]
I totally agree. Teaching marksmanship isn't just a safety issue, either--it's an excellent way to teach responsibility and self-discipline.

I had a dream at the end of my meditation this morning. I was about to
board an airplane. One of the security drones asked if he could search
me. I asked if he had a warrant and when he didn't answer I told him
that he couldn't. He stared at me as if he didn't know what to do. I
told him that searching someone without a warrant is a felony. He
stared at me some more. Then he held out his hand and jerked his head
in the direction of the jetway. I gave him my ticket and boarded the
airplane. [End the War on Freedom]
It's a nice dream, but anyone doing this in real life will just be interrogated by dozens of armed men for a few hours, and then not allowed to fly.

Three Defendants Killed in West Bank. An angry mob led by about two dozen Palestinian gunmen and members of the security forces stormed a heavily guarded Palestinian courtroom in this West Bank town on Tuesday and killed three defendants charged with a vigilante killing. [AP World News]
The men had been convicted of murdering a PLO enforcer who had himself murdered six members of their clan for being "suspected Israeli collaborators." Naturally the enforcer was never charged with anything himself. I shudder to think what the PLO considers "collaboration."
