Symbian shows off OS 7.0 [PDABuzz.com]

I'm not very impressed by the interface, which depends heavily on hieroglyphics.

Daniel Berlinger posts a mini-review of Six Degrees.  [Scripting News]

It looks interesting, but unfortunately there's no Mac version.

I've added a collection of links to stories on the effect of gun control laws on crime in Britain.

This rather interesting search string showed up in my referers: "what would they do if a blackout happened at the 2002 winter olympics".

This page showed up second in the list of results, although I certainly never wrote anything on the subject.

The media that couldn't shoot straight. [FirearmNews.com]

A follow-up on the media's suppression of the fact that the Virginia law school shooting spree was stopped by armed students. It confirms that the reporters covering the case did in fact know the whole story, but chose to omit those parts that did not advance their agenda.

The much anticipated Comments feature for Radio 8 rolled out last night. BTW, any Manila site can host comments. So if you run a Manila site, you can have a community of Radio 8 bloggers flowing comments through your discussion group. You just have to turn the feature on.  [Scripting News]

I'm trying this out now. It's not completely clear if it will "just work," or if I need to have a Manila site to host the comments.

Nikon D100 - 6 megapixel D-SLR. PMA 2002: 07:00 EST GMT: Nikon has today announced its first foray into the 'prosumer' digital SLR market. The new D100 digital SLR is based on the popular F100 film SLR. The D100 features a six megapixel ... [Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)]

I've been very satisfied with my Nikon F100, but film is necessarily more expensive and inconvenient that digital. If I was going to buy a new camera, it would probably be the D100.

Do Not Be A Victim. R. Lee Wrights at Rational Review - Do Not Be A Victim - Sheeple are made, not born. Don't be one.
So why would a group of people, who obviously had the advantage of numbers, not put up a fight and overpower their knife-wielding assailants? It is more than likely that the reason is they were taught all their lives to not defend themselves in such a situation. Now, before you sit down and start writing that dubious poisoned-filled missive about how I am claiming the victims are at fault for their own deaths, at least examine my reasoning before you pass final judgment on my character.

CIA Warns of Afghan Civil War. The Central Intelligence Agency is warning in a classified analysis that Afghanistan could descend into civil war due to fierce competition for power among rival warlords, a senior U.S. official said Thursday. [AP World News]

What do you know, the CIA actually managed to notice something obvious for a change.

Assault rifles for Annan guards investigated. Sources in the U.N. Security and Safety Service say that the members of Mr. Annan's personal protective detail have been using the German-made MP5 submachine guns since 1998, despite an apparent failure to obtain U.S. clearance for their use. [Washington Times]

This is the same Mr. Annan who was attacking civilian ownership of small arms last year. He obviously doesn't have a problem with it as long as the civilians are protecting him. Apparently he's trying to get the Rosie O'Donnell Hypocrisy Award for 2002.
