Newsflash from Illinois - Iowa
Mailbox Pipe Bombs Found Across Quad Cities and Rural Counties

TO my normal blogger, pardon me for this, but I have a considerable number of people from my hometown area who read my weblog daily.

I got the news this morning that someone had put a pipe bomb in the mailbox near home. A letter carrier in rural Scott County, about 15 miles away from my home, had a mailbox explode when she opened the box to deliver the mail. She was seriously injured on her hands, arms and face and taken to the hospital. Over the next couple hours the number of potential pipebombs had grown to over a dozen in a radius of over 150 from my home in Illinois. The Bomb Squad has blown up at least two or three more pipebombs since this morning.

At this time the Postal Inspectors are saying their are five known injuries.

At present all news outlets are warning everyone in the Quad Cities Area to NOT OPEN THEIR MAILBOXES, especially if they see anything unusual.  The Postal Inspectors and Sheriffs are urging people to call them and have it checked out. The bomb is made up of a piece of pipe and a battery, appear to blow up as a fragmentation bomb when it is either touched or moved.

The news reports are saying that when they blew up one of the mailboxes, a letter in a ziplock bag containing anti-American and anti-goverment material was found inside the bag.  The letter contained a threat of further bombs across the country to get attention.

The Postmasters in the local area are not going to be delivering mail on Saturday or Monday, until the situation gets under control. Mail can be picked up at your local PO windows with ID.

Be sure to turn on the radio back home. Jim Fisher at WOC AM 1420 AM is covering the event live.  Also KWQC-TV 6 is carrying the news live.

I slept over 14 hours today because of this throbbing sinus headache. Nothing out of Dr. Doug's pharmaceutical bag of tricks could nail the pain. Even he was puzzled and his ego was bruised when he couldn't make me feel better. Bless him. Doug is a very good diagnostician and gets very frustrated when things don't work. But he tried.

So much for better living through chemistry.

I headed off to Sav-On with my own pharmacist in tow. Dr. Doug and I stop by the pharmacy counter. Kenny K. the local Pharmacist tells Doug that they have had a major run on Ocean, and it's all because of the China dust and air pollution hit here yesterday. "Everyone's getting sick from it. I haven't seen this many people using Ocean (a nasal saline solution) in years!" Lovely. So while the two of them talk shop.. er drugs, I peel the top of the bottle and inhale a quarter of the bottle while standing at the counter. Within in few minutes it stopped throbbing like a jackhammer. This was better--

It turned out the cure was simply humidity. More specifically adding humidity to the air so my sore sinuses could rehydrate. So between a bottle of Ocean, firing up the humidifier and taking a steamy shower the headache went away little by little in about 2 hours.

That's how my day went. I'd be happy to exchange with you. I got zero done.
