Just Be Sure You Spell My Name Right
I've been watching the real-time flack between Shelly and Lemur over real-time conference blogging from the background with considerable interest. Since Doc first started sharing his ideas via his weblog as he attended some conferences, I've found myself better informed. Like AKMA it doesn't bother me.
For me real-time blogging is a wonderful concept for me for the following reason:
1. I can't afford to attend the number of conferences I'd like. No one pays me to go most conferences. Someone around here has to pay the bills. Honestly folks the prices they are getting for some of these gigs are obscene for what you're offering me. Which could be the subject of an entire blog-- but I digress...
2. I can not be away from home, work other responsibilities.
3. Real-time conference blogging offers me the opportunity to keep current with what's happening from various points of view and even get questions answered.
4. Unlike webcasting or a teleconference, I'm hearing opinions and points of view of others not just the speakers.
As a speaker or presenter I personally don't mind if people blog while I talk as long as I don't have to listen to your instant messenger bells or your cell phones go off.
Just spell my name right and get the correct URL out there. The rest will get sorted out in the wash.
