A picture named Helder2Iowa.jog.jpgMailBomb Boy Heads to Iowa to Face Charges: Luke John Helder left Reno, Nevada's Washoe County Jail, dressed in a new white prison jumpsuit today, and is headed back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face multiple charges. He left Reno via the Reno-Tahoe International Airport terminal normally used by corporate jets. No doubt Luke's getting the VIP (Very Important Prisoner) treatment, complete with a trip in a Federal jet with US Marshalls as flight attendents. (Sure beats riding back to Iowa in a Honda.) He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Cedar Rapids Federal District court within the hours.  Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska have filed their Criminal Complaints. (all in pdf)

"His parents, Cameron and Pamela Helder of Pine Island, Minn., left Reno on Thursday after a jailhouse visit with their son. 'It's already been very hard on us,' Cameron Helder said. 'Our heart goes out to the families of the victims and the victims. "We're really sorry." [AP Reports]  No doubt.

"There was a comment made to one of my officers about his hope to make a smiley face when he was all finished," Pershing County Sheriff Ron Skinner told The Associated Press. Another officer confirmed the remark was made to a member of a task force investigating the case." [ABCNEWS.com] It's obvious this kid couldn't draw-- and he was an art and industrial design major?

This morning while listening to Paul Harvey, Harvey mentioned that the Sheriff Skinner said that “This kid’s attitude is so laissez faire, He was willing to say almost anything to attract attention to him.” Also Skinner said he’s not sure whether forming a smiley face was really Helder’s intent, and that the longer Helder has been in custody the less casual he has acted. It was as if reality is setting in.  IT's about time.

FBI Agent Balaam said Helder was on his way to California when he was arrested.  Oh lucky us. He could have been heading out here.

Mailbox Boy: Another Clue Into His Mind:  The Smoking Gun: Archive - This is a copy of a bizarre six-page manifesto, of sorts, written by Luke Helder and sent last week to a college newspaper in Wisconsin. In the rambling letter, Helder, who has been charged in connection with the recent mailbox bombings, writes, "I'm taking very drastic measures in attempt to provide this information to you...I will die/change in the end for this, but that's ok, hahaha paradise awaits! I'm dismissing a few individuals from reality, to change all of you for the better, surely you can understand my logic." The letter, the first page of which is imprinted with the initials LH, was signed "Lucas Helder" and postmarked May 3 in Omaha, Nebraska.
