The DOJ and Company have finally admitted they arrested Jose Padilla, AKA: Abdullah al Mujahir in Chicago's O'Hare International Airport last month. It appears Mr. Padilla was cavorting with the dark side with al-Qaida and was involved in a plan to detonate a "dirty bomb" somewhere in the U.S.. Attorney General Ashcroft said today that Padilla's being held under as an enemy combatant by the military.
This should remind us, that the problems with terrorism is far from over. Also Rantburg's right-- it would be nice if all the people bitching in the past couple weeks and taking potshots at the goverment and agencies about "who knew what and when," would give these people who twarted this pot a pat on the back for a job well done, so quietly.
PBS ran a film called Race for the Superbomb, in which they did a history of the first atomic bombs. It's an interesting look at why the devices were built and the background and history. Want to know how quickly one of these bombs would insure urban renewal in your neighborhood? Click here for map a blast.
This weekend I picked up my late Aunt's Viking 950 sewing machine from the repair shop. Another family member, who will remain nameless in order to protect the guilty, had the machine in their possession for some time until the machine suddenly stopped working. So I took the machine back to California with me and did a standard teardown in order to see what was wrong, and couldn't for the life of me figure out what happened, other than removing a 1/8 of a cup of lint from the housing. So off to Jesse, my local sewing machine mechanic/god/miracle worker, who told me the unnamed family member had overloaded the machine and blown a fuse. For those of you who don't know, Overloading a sewing machine takes some doing, unless you don't know what you're doing... Ahem.
So I brought the machine home and after clearing a space for ANOTHER sewing machine (I collect Featherweights,) I set out to test each and every of the near 30-some stitches it does. For a machine nearly 20 years old it sews very well and will allow me to freehand quilt some of the new quilt-tops I finished. It should prove to be interesting once I get used to using it.
