A picture named rain_tiny2.gifSpaceweather for June 15, 2002A picture named leedavid.jpg

QUIET SUN: None of the sunspots dotting the Sun today pose a threat for strong explosions. Solar activity should remain low for at least the next 24 hours..

The Photo Gallery has some excellent photographs of last Monday's Solar Eclipse, like this one taken by David Lee of Victoria, B.C. with his Nikon 950 using afocal technique Telescope: Televue Pronto 480mm mounted on a Super Polaris mount.

Question: Does anyone have an idea where I can get a t-mount for my Nikon 990 to mount to my B & L Discoverer Shooting Scope? I tried emailing CKC Power, but no one ever answered. This appears to be what I need.

By the way-- For those of you who don't want to download the Voyager software from Carina Software and put it on your computer, try the Heaven's Above Website. They also provide the times of visibility, but also detailed star charts showing the satellite's track through the heavens. All our pages, including the graphics, are generated in real-time and customized for your location and time zone. It's a real gem online!

Doc Having Way Too Much F'ing Fun in London

Thank you Lord — and Kynance Community Wireless (and Consume.net)

lucyicon.jpg"...No! Get this:::: Ben Hammersley just strolled up, walking his dog Lucy (that's her pic). He started talking to his friend Edgar, who just sat down at the cafe with his TiBook, when overheard their conversation about "access." He looked familiar too. So I called over and said, "Excuse me, is this your node I'm on?" "Yes," he said, then came over. "You're Doc Searls!" I said, "Yes!" And he said "Fuck me!" and held out his hand. Damn! It's his fucking node!

Now the three of us are sitting here, talking RSS trash. I love it! The Revolution is on, People! I haven't felt this jazzed and with-it since the Sixties."

Good Lord! I envy him and I'm jealous. I need to go do something-- Nuff' said.

Another thought... I remember hearing Doc complain about not getting enough exercise-- well he isn't the only one. I wonder if we should propose a new game based on the idea of seeking out Wi-Fi locations and getting gifts/prizes like they do with the GPS Treking games? I think it's called Geocaching? It would force us to get out of the house. Lug around a laptop or device in a pack, make friends and get some exercise. hmmmm?

Weblog Alert Service Wanted:

Guru Scott Loftesness issues his request:  Wanted: A Weblog Alert Service. Here's a request to the weblog development community.

Scott's right. As more and more weblogs come online-- and my time is getting shorter, I want a quick compact way of knowing if something new's is posted in weblogs I want to read.

The Shifted Librarian is talking about Exposing Deep Throat.

MSNBC is reporting On The Trail of "Deep Throat"

"But for nearly 30 years, the identity of 'Deep Throat — the legendary, cigarette-smoking, scotch-drinking secret source — has remained a mystery.

"Dateline' followed their search, what they hope will be the final phase of a remarkable, three-year investigation. Using modern computer technology and old-fashioned research, these students are finding new clues, trying to crack the case that’s baffled official Washington and the rest of the world for three decades....

And, although they’re far from certain, the students told 'Dateline,' they have a hunch. Do they know who Deep Throat is?

'We all think Buchanan.'  Patrick Buchanan — the same Pat Buchanan who would later run for president himself. They think Patrick Buchanan is Deep Throat?

I personally still think it's Kissenger. Woodward and Bernstein say they will say who it is, once that person has died.

Martha Stewart May Need to Save Those Popsicle Sticks

It appears Martha Stewart's social climbing may have caught up with her and that mear $130 million net loss in personal value this week may just have Martha considering how to pinch a few pennies.  MSNBC is reporting:

"Choose your friends carefully. That’s the most obvious lesson to be drawn from the pickle in which lifestyle authority Martha Stewart now finds herself thanks to her long-time friendship with Manhattan social climber and cancer-cure businessman, Sam Waksal. For Martha Stewart, the price of that friendship is suddenly proving to be high indeed. Martha finds herself abruptly thrust into the center of a mushrooming insider trading scandal in which the controversial Waksal now stands accused of using his own family members in an insider trading scheme to steal more than $10 million from the public market...." Alf

Alf Returns to the Tube!

The Shifted Librarian reports The rest of my family will be thrilled to learn that ALF is making a comeback. [via Daypop Top 40]

Yes! Hate to admit it, but I love Alf.  That furry visitor from Melmack with a taste for cats and with enough wicked wit to fill a 30 minute sitcom with several pages left over.

Alf was one TV show my mother and I shared. We even lugged a television into the motorhome on trips to make sure we didn't miss it.  A funny family fact is that for my Mother's 60th birthday-- all she wanted a stuffed Alf. Imagine a 30 year old going to Toys r Us trying to find their mother an Alf Doll. I did it.

Kaver Mariah and the Clutch at Kodak Tower 2002.jpgThe World's Most Photographed Peregrine Falcons

Where in the world do two Falcon's make their home? Well if you're Mariah and Kaver you make your home in none other than the top of the Kodak Tower in Rochester, New York. This is Mariah's 5th year mating and nesting at the Kodak digs. While it is known that Peregrine's normally mate for life.  In four previous years Mariah (named after mrs. Kodak,) has mated with Cabot-Sirocco and produced 4 clutches of 14 Peregrine's. This year she mated with a new male named Kaver.  Their clutch produced 2 new baby Falcon's named Freedom (m) and Isis (f) born in May. They are at a point where they are getting ready to fly.

Kodak as put four webcams on the family that run 24/7.  The website http://birdcam.kodak.com has a wonderful album as the wired world has watched and documented the nesting, incubation, hatching, and maturation of each of these clutches. It is a wonderful site everyone can enjoy checking in on frequently.
