Rarely do I plug a friend's work in Hollywood. But today I want to take a minute to bring a new PBS series to your attention.  If you have kids between 7 and 12 yrs old, who gets little or no American History in school, which regretably is the norm vs. the exception, Liberty's Kids is for them. Liberty's Kids was written by LA Radio Personality and Writer, Doug McIntyre who hosts KABC's Red Eye Radio program from 1 AM til 5 AM Monday thru Friday.  If you live in LA, Tonight tune to KABC AM 790, Doug will be interviewing Walter Cronkite and the folks from DIC Entertainment who worked with Doug on the series.

A picture named bfranklin.jpgBetween Doug and the folks at DIC Entertainment who produced the series with PBS, their goal was to introduce kids to a remarkable group of historical figures during the period of the American Revolution through the eyes of other kids during the period. Kids are introduced to historical charactures from Ben Franklin (played by Walter Cronkite) to Abigale Adams (played by Annette Benning.) and the series will enable them to understand the incredible sacrifices these individuals made to help found the United States. The cast is a remarkable collection of individuals.

I predict Liberty's Kids will have the same impact on today's kids as Schoolhouse Rock did on us.

The series of 40-30 minute shows helps kids understand the importance of key philosophical, social and political issues at the heart of the American Revolution by setting these issues in actual historical contexts, by having individuals such as Jefferson (Ben Stiller,) James Madison (Warren Buffet) and Paul Revere (Sly Stallone,) and explain these issues and by seeing the impact of these issues on the lives of ordinary citizens.

Coffee Talk August 29, 2002

It's the end of August and I don't know about you, but I'd like to know where in the heck the summer went? If anyone has a clue, please email me.

For years I've spent my summer's in Maine, Boston or at home on the farm in Illinois. But this year I did virtually nothing, like I was stuck in concrete. Now that summer's officially drawing to a close it's a wierd feeling, like I missed a major chunk of time, while sitting on the sidelines.

At the moment I need to take the truck down to the mechanic to tweek the transmission job he did last week.  I'll BRB in a bit.
