Patriot Act redux It appears that my fears (and many other Americans fears) of the Bush administration and John Ashcroft were well founded. The Patriot Act II story has appeared, that the Justice Department is making the rounds seeking input on an update to the Patriot Act. This simply continues the Orwellian grab for power, and the continued errosion of Constitutional protections in this country...mj 12:05:28 PM

Landry strikes again Last night I blogged the story of how Adam lost his job at Apple, in part due to the negligence of an Apple Rumor web site. The site owner, Doug Landry has claimed that he posted the story after it became public. He's dead wrong, it truly became public when he posted it. It also serves to show that if you think you are safe providing Doug Landry material to post on his web site, guess again. Last night he posted the following: "At 1 PM Central time, we were informed of the link from an Apple employee. Apparently, the link was also found earlier that day via a post on the Slashdot.org site, in addition to a file-trading Internet Relay Chat channel. The employee emailed his own boss, the leaker's boss, and Apple's corporate security department via email. At that time we made the decision that our post was newsworthy and would not make a difference in the employee's situation after the emails had already been sent. Thus, we posted the story around 1:20 PM" So Mr. Landry has now let Apple know how he found out about the story, and given Apple enough information to track down that employee and fire them too. Basic journalism says that you protect your sources, it would appear the Doug Landry has a problem with the concept. It's one thing to post information, it's another to act in a reckless manner.
