Still innocent, still facing death
Arguments in death-row case raises troubling questions for Missouri Supreme Court - This is the case of a death row inmate who clearly can not be convicted 'beyond a reasonable doubt. It is also a case I blogged a year ago.
What is outrageous is the assistant attorney generals assertion that Amrine should be executed because he had a fair trial. Missouri Supreme Court Judge Ronnie White asked "So you would put an innocent man to death as long as he got a fair trial?" The Missouri Attorneys General office seems to think the answer is yes! The former State Attorneys General John Ashcoft had pushed for Amrines execution, despite the fact that there now appears to be no evidence against him.
Do you wonder why the Europeans can't understand our drive for capital punishment. Other then Japan we are the only democracy that executes its prisoners. We are also one of only 5 nations on earth that executes minors...mj
