Think about the countless numbers of people stuck in traffic in cities in the USA this morning, polluting the air and spending their money on wasting petrol (gas) because of the decisions made by GM executives decades ago. And it will all happen again tomorrow. And the day after that...

Ad blocking
I had a thought this morning.

Most web adverts are of a standard set of sizes, so it should be possible to block ads at the browser simply by specifying an editable list of image sizes that should not be displayed. (I would also set it up to catch Flash objects as well as images, as blocking .jpg or .gif files seems to just encourage a Flash replacement).

A quick Google shows that this is not an original idea, but it would appear that it has not been implemented in any browsers. An add-in for Firefox, anyone?
