David Byrne - Grown Backwards
I'm going to see Mr Byrne (who was born in Scotland, incidentally) at the Royal Festival Hall on the 9th of April. I loved Talking Heads and he's done some stunningly good collaborative work (My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, for one), as well as some pretty damn good solo stuff. (Music for the Knee Plays is a decidedly quirky personal favorite of mine). More recently, I wasn't a huge fan of Look Into The Eyeball, though a couple of the tracks were quite listenable.

I thought I should familiarise myself with Grown Backwards before the concert. News is, it's consistently good, with some stand-out tracks. I should probably write a track by track review, but I cannot, as they say, be arsed.

I need to listen a few more times, but I would say that Tiny Apocalypse may well be up there with anything he's ever done, and I very much like his take on The Pearl Fishers duet.

Great production, nice packaging.

Verdict - 3.8 native americans.

State of Play - LAST DAY. Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens
until 28/3/2004.
[London art listings]

I notice that the Serpentine sell limited edition prints and multiples at very reasonable prices. The only restriction is that they are not for resale. Interesting.
