A good dunkin' I had no idea a tug could do this. It rolls to at least 80 degrees and bobs upright again after sliding under the bridge. I wonder if anyone was seriously injured, especially in the engine room? That's a story to tell the grandchildren about! [Doc Searls]

Campaign spending the way it ought to be? The Ventura County race for clerk and recorder has seen a lot of money this time around because the winner is going to play a big part in spending lots of money to modernize our punch card systems. Frankly, I'm pretty happy with it, but chad has now entered the popular vocabulary and punch cards are bad considered bad, so we're going to spend a bunch of money we don't have to get something that will likely be more difficult to use and audit. What caught my eye and made me laugh out loud was this:
Wesner thinks the county should consider accepting electronically notarized records and should open a full-service clerk-recorder branch in eastern Ventura County. Wesner's campaign war chest is listed at $42, which he spent to attend two Republican lunches.
He's obviously not a serious candidate, but I wish he were.

On the other end of the scale, you have Ron Bamieh, who has raised over $1 million, most of it from his father to use in the race for District Attorney against Greg Totten. This is a race of the established bureaucrat versus the trial lawyer with no real administrative experience (but access to a lot of money).

Today is the day I need to decide on this and a number of other issues because there won't be time during the week. Other links: Smartvoter.org coverage for Ventura Countyand California, Ventura County election results.
