Digital camera + GPS

FINALLY!!!!!!

ricohi700.jpgYou can now know precisely where you were when you snapped those holiday pics with a new 3.2 megapixel digital camera from Ricoh that comes with a slot for an optional GPS card that will automatically stamp each picture with the exact location of where it was taken. The RDC-i700G is currently only available only in Japan.

SMS abbreviations sneak into school essays

I can almost read this...

A British student is arguing that her essay, written in SMS shorthand, should receive a passing grade:

"My smmr hols wr CWOT. B4, we used 2go2 NY 2C my bro, his GF & thr 3 : kids FTF. ILNY, it's a gr8 plc."

NewsDesk 0.9 is now available

Major new features in this release:

  • Preloaded with 58 popular news and weblog channels!
  • Add channels from NewsIsFree with the Add Channel Wizard! (requires a free trial NewsIsFree account)
  • Import channels from OCS and OPML channel directories with the Add Channel Wizard
  • Search the entire NewsIsFree channel directory by category, language, or keyword (requires a free trial NewsIsFree account)
  • Tutorials!

Other new features:

  • The channel now shows the number of unread headlines in the tree view.
  • You can use proxy servers that require authentication.
  • You can use the odd and truly rare proxy server that requires HTTP 1.0.
  • When you know the URL of a channel, it's even easier to add that channel to NewsDesk (see File | New Channel).
  • Subscribe/Unsubscribe have become less important, and may be removed in a future release. Their only purpose in this release is to enable/disable automatic update for individual channels.

Bugs fixed in this release:

  • NewsDesk now reads all RSS flavors (0.9x, 1.0, and 2.0)
  • OPML and OCS export now correctly set the appropriate file extension on the export file.
  • NewsDesk is much more conservative when getting new headlines. There was a bug that caused NewsDesk to update channels every 5 minutes (or whatever you set your update interval to) after it passed it's scheduled update time.
  • NewsDesk normalizes export file names.
  • NewsMenu shows, but does not try to open RSS headlines that have no link.
  • NewsDesk now reads channels with FOAF elements, though it does not take advantage of FOAF elements.
