South of France, in February?

South of France, in February? We actually did some of that work today, but focused on puttering: things like pruning our large rosemary bush, Deb making rosemary olive oil bottles, and I cutting up rosemary branches for future use in the barbecue. Sixty eight degrees F in the shade, still, clear sky. There are already plenty of little blue flowers on the rosemary. Deb asks "Are we in the South of France?"
My reply: "No, it's February. If we were there, it would be cold and it would be raining."

The manzanita is also completely in bloom. I suppose it's a bit subtler, small clusters of white bell-shaped flowers hanging down from most of the leaf clusters on each plant's periphery. Nice, though.

Work: stare at it for hours

It was too nice a day to spend inside. So we spent much of the afternoon surveying the back yard, planning what changes we'd like to see someday -- new retaining walls, decks, fountains, a streambed. Lots of hummingbirds out today. In the upper 60's. Not bad for February. Much too nice a day to actually do any of that work that we planned...
