Gamow's Tompkins in Wonderland
Garth writes:
Next: football software which simulates the speed of light being only
100km/h, to give people a more "physical" appreciation of relativistic
physics. [Idea dimly remembered from an old New Scientist or Scientific American, I suspect.]
My also-dim memory said it was a book by George Gamow (whose work
I remember from a book of his called "One, Two, Three...Infinity")
that told a story that featured something like this, with an
"Alice/Through the Looking Glass" twist. After I found this
list of Gamow's books, I think it was
Mr. Tompkins in Wonderland, published in 1939.
It's one of a series of 4 or 5 "Mr. Tompkins" books.
