Hummingbirds and Soaring Ravens; and planting
Hummingbirds and Soaring Ravens
When I first went outside the other morning, there were a pair of
good-sized birds, soaring over the neighbor's driveway. Took me a while to identify them as ravens -- I don't see those guys soar like that very often.
We've had
crows and ravens
in the area at least as long as we've
been here (20 years), but this past year the raven population really
boomed. Must've been last year's superbowl win.
Planting
Deb brought home some cedars, manzanita & juniper; they were ready
to be planted in the back yard. The hummingbirds kept me company. They'll fly straight up 30 or 40 feet and hover, then dive down to bush level and back up, in a U-shaped trajectory, hover at the other end of the U, and then come back and do it again. And again. Nice day, for February.
