2004 Presidential Election

Update:

Halley Suitt: "We all got schnookered. We all got taken. The last election was the last election run BY THEM. Why are bloggers so excited about this election? Just like everything else in Blogland -- we are finally getting to hear the voices of real people."

Latest Zogby Poll on South Carolina from the Daily Kos.

Joe Lieberman made a quick stop in Denver yesterday for a little fundraising yesterday according to the Denver Post [September 4, 2003, "Low-key Lieberman stumps in Denver"]. Says the Post, "Lieberman's message about strong national defense, fiscal restraint and family values was the same as it has been since he launched his presidential bid in January. Although he knocked the Bush administration, his criticisms lacked the vitriol typical of his Democratic rivals John Kerry and Howard Dean. The candidate had little to say specifically about the West other than that 'this is one of the most beautiful parts of the country.' Speaking with The Denver Post, he briefly mentioned the need to protect Western open space and derided Bush as 'the worst environmental president in our history."

Lieberman was on his way to Albuquerque for the first nationally televised debate amongst Democratic candidates tonight. The debate will be at 6PM on PBS according to e-mail from the Lieberman campaign.

Here's a story from the AP [September 3, 2003, "John Kerry Struggles to Right Campaign"] about John Kerry's announcement on Tuesday and the possibility that he is already going to shake up his staff due to his weak showing in some of the polls. From the article, "The tone of the speech announcing Kerry's candidacy, in fact, was the subject of fierce internal debate within the campaign over whether to focus on the candidate's resume and Bush's performance, or lambaste Dean. Tuesday morning in South Carolina, Kerry launched his campaign with the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown as a backdrop. His campaign tried to focus on his Vietnam War-hero credentials to give him the credibility to stand up to a wartime president."

John Edwards is launching a weblog.

Denver November 2003 Ballot

There will be three statewide issues on the November ballot. According to the Rocky Mountain News [September 4, 2003, "State refines 'blue book' guide to '03 ballot issues"] the ballot language is nearing completion. From the article, "The state today will polish wording in the 'blue book' that outlines for voters the pros and cons of three statewide ballot issues they'll face in November. Supporters and opponents of each of the measures - dealing with water bonds, video lottery terminals and residential property taxes - will appear before the legislature's executive committee to try to tweak the wording to help their causes."

There are three Denver School board positions to be decided in November according to the Denver Post [September 4, 2003, "Montero joins race for school board seat"]. From the article, "Rita Montero is seeking to rejoin the Denver school board after a four-year absence to keep her eye on what she calls financial mismanagement and inadequate academic progress. Also running against at-large incumbent Theresa Pena is Jose Silva, a 23-year-old senior at the University of Denver. It's the only contested race among the three seats up for a vote Nov. 4. The Rev. Lucia Guzman, who unseated Montero in 1999, is running unopposed in northwest Denver, and newcomer Bruce Hoyt is running unopposed in southwest Denver."
