2004 Presidential Election

Howard Dean's campaign is saying that 6 District of Columbia council members have endorsed Dean in his run for the Democratic presidential nomination. Dean's understanding of local issues and voting rights for Washington D.C. residents seemed to have sealed the deal for him.

Denver November 2003 Ballot

Here's a short article from the Denver Post [September 9, 2003, "Water projects not preordained, official says"] about Referendum A on the November ballot. Apparently the debate at Club 20 last week included the accusation that Govenor Owens and the Colorado Water Conservation Board have a hidden agenda or list of projects that they want to fund with the dough from the referendum. Club 20 voted against supporting the referendum. From the article, "Referendum A calls on the state water board to recommend two projects to the governor by 2005. Although Referendum A could put taxpayers on the hook for $4 billion in principal, interest and other costs, neither Owens nor other supporters have identified any projects that would be built with the money. The allegation of a secret list of projects sparked a debate at Club 20 on Friday, when the Western Slope coalition voted to oppose Referendum A." Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News [September 9, 2003, "Water officials deny study linked to Referendum A"]. The Rocky includes contact information for the Statewide Water Study Inititative, "For information on upcoming meetings go to www.cwcb.state.co.us and click on Statewide Water Supply Initiative."

It's fun to see all the pols talking about the lack of trust between them, around the referendum, during the week that the State high court is listening to arguments on last spring's re-districting effort. New congressional districts were pushed through in the last days of the session to avoid open discussion around the effort and draw the lines to favor the Republican majority. What goes around comes around.
