2004 Presidential Election
Update: New Mexico Democrats weigh in on the nomination.
Bob Graham was in Denver on Sunday according to the Rocky Mountain News [September 15, 2003, "Dem campaigns in state"]. Graham held a sparsely attended news conference yesterday and is planning a fundraiser today at Sullivan's Steakhouse. Here's the coverage from the Denver Post [September 15, 2003, "Graham rips Bush on wildfires, energy"]. From the article, "Graham flew into Denver late Saturday and spent much of the day Sunday 'catching up on paperwork' in his room at the Magnolia Hotel. He later met privately with Rep. Mark Udall, D-Colo., who said he's not supporting Graham's - nor any other Democratic - presidential bid but respects the senator's foreign-policy views. Graham attended a reception Sunday evening at the home of retired attorney Dick Freese, a longtime buddy from Harvard Law School. The candidate is slated today to be the guest of honor at a fundraising luncheon at Sullivan's Steak House in Lower Downtown, being hosted by Freese and his wife, Sigrid; Jeremy and Kristin Bronson; and philanthropist and state school-board member Jared Polis. Guests are being asked to give at least $500 each to Graham's campaign."
Here's a link to a short article on a presidential poll in Missouri. I like the voters in Missouri. They elected a dead guy over John Ashcroft.

Rocky Mountain News - Weblogs
The Rocky Mountain News [September 15, 2003, "Blogging on"] is running a story about weblogging today. It's nice to see some press about the blogosphere. From the article, "These musings and many others fill blogs, personal Web sites characterized by generally short entries listed in chronological order. Pick a topic and bloggers - the journal-keepers - have it covered: politics, current affairs, culture, lifestyles, technology sports, the minutiae of everyday life. Blogs - the word is a contraction of Web logs - have become a booming Internet subculture. Anyone with an Internet connection has the potential for a worldwide audience, publishing thoughts, opinions, rants, family news and conspiracy theories, complete with links to related news stories and Internet sites. Some sites use simple, generic designs, while others rival the look and sophistication of commercial sites. All contain links to other bloggers; most have archives." Yup, that nails it. The Rocky [September 15, 2003, "Colorado Blogs"] has a companion piece listing some of the weblogs around Denver and Colorado. I feel honored, Coyote Gulch is listed. Don't tell them they linked to a City employee, they'll probably print a retraction.
A year ago today I was pledging my undying love for librarians.

Denver November 2003 Election
Referendum A is the subject of an in-depth look from the Rocky Mountain News [September 15, 2003, "Dams proposal holds flood of desire, dread"]. From the article, "So far, Referendum A backers have a huge fund-raising advantage. As of Friday, they had collected nearly $471,870, much of it from Front Range builders, bond dealers and consulting interests. Opponents, including a coalition of lawmakers, Western Slope groups and environmentalists, hadn't reported any funds raised as of Friday and have acknowledged they'll be easily outspent by opposition with deeper pockets." Mail-in ballot voting will start on October 10th. Not much time to make a case on either side. The Rocky [September 15, 2003, "Q&A on Referendum A"] has a short Q&A and a table listing some major points for and against [September 15, 2003, "A look at Referendum A"]. The second short article says that the opponents' website is under construction. Hey guys, pop $40 for Radio Userland and get yourself some inexpensive hosting from a company like Forethought.net. You'll be up and running in a couple of hours.
