2004 Presidential Election

Update: Yesterday Howard Dean's campaign asked his supporters to vote thumbs up or thumbs down on Federal Matching Funds for the Presidential Primary. 85% of those that responded directed Dean to let the Feds keep their dough. The ballot supplied by the campaign asked each voter how much they would consider donating for the primary. My feeling is that they got good news.

Update: Howard Dean's weblog post today, I voted to opt out. The tea is in the harbor!

Update: Dave Winer: "Howard Dean became the first Democrat to opt out of the presidential public financing system in 30 years."

Update: The Daily Kos asks How will remaining unions lean?

Mike Littwin weighs in on Howard Dean's screw-up with respect to Confederate Flag displaying southern white men in today's Rocky Mountain News [November 8, 2003, "Littwin: Flag remark likely not Dean's final gaffe"]. Says Littwin, "It has been noted many times that Dean, the physician, has the doctor's good opinion of his own views. But he combines that good opinion with a willingness to express those views in the strongest terms. And that's what has helped make him, gaffes and all, the front-runner in the Democratic primary race. In this, what has been the toughest week of his campaign, two big unions are about to endorse Dean. And the latest polling in New Hampshire shows him with a 14-point lead over Kerry. Some candidates have had tougher weeks."

Denver November 2004 Election

The race is on for Senate and Ben Nighthorse Campbell, the incumbent, is ready to do battle, according to the Rocky Mountain News [November 8, 2003, "Campbell says he still has the moves"]. The 70 year old senator has successfully fought prostate cancer and is seeking another term. Campbell is the only Native-american US Senator.

The Rocky [November 8, 2003, "Race for Senate"] also lists some information about Campbell's announced opponents. So far we have Fountain educator Mike Miles and Lawyer Brad Freedberg. There is a chance that U.S. Rep. Mark Udall may also run.
