2007 Denver Municipal Election
Colorado Pols: "Should Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper decide to run for governor and win, and he is currently at the top of our odds list, somebody is going to have to replace him as mayor. There will be no shortage of candidates, and some are already making their desires known."
"Denver City Attorney Cole Finegan reportedly has his eye on the seat, and friends of his are quietly planning scenarios whereby Hick would appoint Finegan as Deputy Mayor, allowing him to run for re-election in May 2007 as acting mayor..."
"Would Hickenlooper go to bat for Finegan? That's the bigger question, and it depends in part on who else has their eye on the seat. Would Hickenlooper really support Finegan over, say, City Council President Elbra Wedgeworth, Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey, or his own Chief of Staff Michael Bennett? (assuming any of those three were interested in the job)"

2004 Presidential Transition
President Bush named the current acting director to lead the Envronmental Protection Agency, according to the Denver Post [March 5, 2005, "Bush picks career EPA official to run agency"]. From the article, "President Bush today elevated Stephen Johnson, the acting head of the Environmental Protection Agency, nominating him to the top job on a full-time basis. Bush called Johnson 'the first professional scientist to lead the EPA.' Johnson, a career government employee who has been with the agency for 24 years, had become its temporary head six weeks ago."
Update: Howling At A Waning Moon: "Scientist named to head the EPA."

Denver November 2006 Election
In his column in today's Rocky Mountain News Peter Blake writes, "Beauprez, according to friends, is as willing to run for governor now as he was unwilling a few months ago. But it won't be an easy decision. He enjoys the House, has a seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee and will continue to bring plenty of pork back to his 7th District as long as the Democrats maintain similar registration numbers."
Lots of rumours swirling aroung my boss lately. Bob Ewegen writes, "But if you want Democratic hearts to flutter, mention Denver's phenomenally popular Mayor John Hickenlooper," in his column in today's Denver Post [March 5, 2005, "Hickenlooper for governor?"].
Mr. Ewegen, please drop "Hickzonner."
