Social Security
Here's the latest in the Denver Post's editorial series about the remaking of Social Security [March 25, 2005, "Questions about privatization"]. They write, "Workers who opted to divert part of their Social Security taxes into the personal accounts advocated by President Bush would have to agree to a reduction in their remaining Social Security benefits. Privatization advocates claim that the return on such personal accounts would more than offset that loss. But many economists question that claim. President Bush has yet to make a specific proposal. But administration sources have said that all of the money workers deposited into personal accounts, plus 3 percent interest above inflation, would probably be subtracted from their traditional Social Security benefits."

Colorado Water
Here's a short update on HB 1177 from the Denver Post [March 25, 2005, "Water détente favored over dispute"]. The bill, "calls for a series of roundtable discussions across the state and a statewide commission providing a framework for negotiations between the state's nine major basins and sub-basins."
