Lawrence Lessig: "It now looks like there's a very good chance that Iowa will do the American democracy more good tomorrow than any election has done in the last generation. If the polls are to be believed (or if caucusers turn out according to the polls), then a majority of the Democracts will be voting for a candidate that places fixing the corruption that is Washington at the very top of his agenda. Both Edwards and Obama have made this their core message (Populist hero Edwards more than new generation Obama), and if the majority of Democrats in Iowa ratifying that message gets understood, we may see this election go a long way towards fixing the problem that I think is the single most important problem facing government today."

Josh Marshall: "A new poll just out from Franklin Pierce Univ./WBZ has McCain 37% and Romney 31% in NH."

Douglas Burns (via The Iowa Independent: "I expect Barack Obama to win the Democratic Iowa presidential caucuses Thursday night. He has succeeded in turning lightning in a bottle, that transcendent speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, into an enduring legacy and boots-on-the-ground effective campaign in Iowa."

From Mitt Romney's weblog: "Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced endorsements from five more Colorado state legislators. These supporters, who are in addition to Governor Romney's already-robust legislative leadership team in the state, will help Governor Romney's campaign organize at the grassroots level and communicate his message of conservative change in Washington. The new supporters are State Sen. Josh Penry and State Reps. Cory Gardner, Larry Liston, Frank McNulty, and Rob Witwer. These five legislators are often referred to as some of the rising stars of the Colorado Republican Party."

Political Wire: "A new Suffolk University/7NEWS tracking poll of likely New Hampshire primary voters shows Sen. Hillary Clinton leading Sen. Barack Obama, 37% to 20%, with John Edwards back at 16%. Among Republican primary voters, Sen. John McCain leads with 32%, followed by Mitt Romney at 23%, Rudy Giuliani at 11%, Mike Huckabee at 10%, and Rep. Ron Paul at 8%."

Political Wire: "'On the eve of the Iowa caucuses, Rudy Giuliani's once solid lead in nationwide polling of Republican voters has vanished,' according to a new Pew Research survey. The poll finds roughly equal levels of support for Sen. John McCain (22%), Rudy Giuliani (20%), and Mike Huckabee (17%). Giuliani's support has slipped 13 points since September, while Huckabee has gained 13 points and McCain has gained 6 points. 'The drop in support for Giuliani has occurred across all segments of the GOP electorate.' Meanwhile, the Democratic race has remained largely stable nationwide with Sen. Hillary Clinton with a 20 points lead over Sen. Barack Obama, 46% to 26%, with John Edwards holding at 14%."

Political Wire: "A new CNN/WMUR survey in New Hampshire finds Sen. John McCain and Mitt Romney tied for first place in next week's primary with 29% each -- 'a huge comeback for the Arizona senator, who was written off by many pundits after his campaign imploded earlier in the year. Six months ago, he placed fourth in the same poll, with support just barely in double digits.' Rudy Giuliani is third with 12%, followed by Mike Huckabee at 10%. The Democratic primary race is also neck-and-neck with Sen. Hillary Clinton in a statistical tie with Sen. Barack Obama. Clinton leads with 34%, followed by Obama at 30% and John Edwards at 17%."

Political Wire: "It doesn't get any closer than this: A new Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll shows Sen. Barack Obama pulling even with Sen. Hillary Clinton in Iowa, with John Edwards close behind, in a tightening three-way race just one day before the first presidential nominating contest. Clinton and Obama each have 28% support, with Edwards at 26%, resulting in a three-way statistical tie. The Republican race also tightened, with Mike Huckabee leading Mitt Romney by just two points, 28% to 26%. Sen. John McCain and Fred Thompson were tied for third place at 12%."

Evolving Thoughts (via Science Blogs): "The US-based Electronic Privacy Information Center and the UK-based Privacy International have assessed over 70 countries for their protection of privacy, both online and generally. The worst nations are Russia, China, the United Kingdom and the United States. Yes, that's right, the least private nations include the two supposedly most democratic nations."
