Environmental News Network: "As the Kansas Legislative session closes, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has for a third time vetoed a bill that would have allowed a coal generating station in western Kansas to expand by adding two new coal-fired units. It would also have raised electricity rates across the state for the benefit of a single company. 'Throughout this entire Session,' the governor said, 'the legislature has failed to craft a comprehensive energy policy for our state. Here, nearing the end, their one statewide policy is to raise the electric bill of every Kansan.'"

Digby: "I have heard some rumbling from readers lately that the blogosphere's obsession with illegal spying and torture and the like is somehow an 'elitist' concern that will be detrimental to winning elections. I don't know if that's true, but frankly, I don't much care."

Colorado Confidential: "According to a statement from the ACLU, the organization recently filed an open records request seeking a department procedure manual for Denver's downtown jail, where arrestees are first taken to be processed and fingerprinted before being released or sent to a larger jail located on the edge of Denver County. The possibility of mass arrests at the convention have raised concerns about where individuals will be detained and for how long. The ACLU claims that the city has refused to hand over the manual, saying that it would be contrary to the "public interest," prompting the lawsuit to obtain the policy book."

Political Wire: "The final Suffolk University poll numbers for the two states voting tomorrow show: In Oregon, Obama leads Clinton, 45% to 41% with 8% undecided. In Kentucky, Clinton leads Obama, 51% to 26% with 11% undecided."

Political Wire: "A new SurveyUSA poll in Oregon shows Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. Hillary Clinton by nine points among the 77% of likely voters who have already returned their mail-in ballot. But when all likely voters are counted, Obama leads by 13 points, 55% to 42%."
