Denver November 2004 Election
Bob Schaffer is making the point that a candidate for U.S. Senate and statewide office should come up through the ranks, according to the Rocky Mountain News [April 21, 2004, "Schaffer knocks Coors at luncheon"]. From the article, "The primary election is Aug. 10, and the nominee will face the Democratic challenger on Nov. 2. The GOP race so far features (Peter) Coors, Schaffer and two lesser known Republicans, Charles Fowler and George Walker. Tuesday's luncheon was the first major Republican gathering since Coors got in the race at the urging of top party officials. The recruiting has upset some Schaffer supporters, who said they found it underhanded and disloyal."
Roman Catholic Archbishop Chaput repeated that politicians should not take a position against church doctrine like the issue of abortion, according to the Rocky [Arpil 21, 2004, "Archbishop's remarks target office seekers"].
