Understanding Technorati Little By Little

Earlier I posted a bit about Dave Sifry's latest Technorati gadget, the Technorati Anywhere bookmarklet. It was both another interesting New Thing from Dave (we're all about that...it's in our name) and a way for me to dig a little deeper into what Technorati does. I'm definitely slow on this, but my test was to see if by linking to Dave's TA announcement post I'd show up in the Link Cosmos for that page (Dave looked a little lonely as the only linker...hehe). The Technorati idea (or one of the many) as I get it is to know everyone who's linking to a particular URL (like this an individual blog post). Actually, is it every link to a URL or only those links that are contained in RSS feeds, like my own? Anyway, the test worked and as of this moment, I'm the only non-Dave linker to his announcement post. And I'm taking the test to one more outer circular level by seeing if this post ends up putting this post's URL in the Link Cosmos for that Link Cosmos (there isn't anyone there yet, so we'll see, and understand a little more...hopefully).

[Later...] OK, testing over...I'm there. Small bits of knowledge seeping into my frayed brain. Dave rocks!

Loren Schoenberg On Ruby Braff - Interview Online At The New Jazz Thing!

It's far to late (or early) to do this with the dignity it needs, seeing that last night's interview with Loren Schoenberg on Ruby Braff's passing last weekend was terrific. I'll be modifiying or augmenting this post with details, but thought I'd put up the links for those who want to stream the MP3 for on-line listening or even download the MP3 for mobile jazz learning forays. I had a great time talking with Loren and hope to talk again and meet soon. Without further whatever...

<

  • MP3 Stream, Low-Fi. Prefered because it increases the number of folks I can afford to have hear this. It still sounds really good.
  • MP3 Stream, Hi-Fi. Best streaming quality.
  • MP3 Download. 32Mb. Pretty hefty, but it's about 35 minutes of us with a tune thrown in for good measure. Probably not entirely kosher with the tune in there, but maybe we'll sell a few more Ruby discs.

Maybe Loren or some of his buddy's have something to say about the interview or about Ruby or about anything. Just use the Comment[] link below to post your piece.

  • Morgans Family Art Project

The artist is a kind person. Looking to make others happy. Or so it seems as she takes care of the little ones each morning before getting herself in line to start the day.

    A picture named MorgansFamilyArtProject_Cool_P2123778.JPG

Family Art Night was a blast and San Diego (in particular Hearst Elementary) Art Corp Rocks! More pictures soon. Maybe the artist could use the Comment[] link and tell us about the picture? Maybe you can use the Comment[] link and tell us what you think of the picture?

I'll start. I have no clue. But it looks really cool. How professional a crituque is that?!

Technorati Anywhere! Diving Into The Linkage Fun

Sifry's Alerts: Technorati Anywhere!. I whipped up a little tool this evening that I thought y'all might like.  It's called the Technorati Anywhere! bookmarklet.  What it does is simple - the bookmarklet opens a new window or tab in your browser with the list of links (and short excerpts) of people who link to the page you're viewing. It is a new way of instantly checking sources and finding out the credibility of the page you're currently viewing. If you don't like your browser opening new windows or tabs, here's a version of Technorati Anywhere! that shows the results in the current window. It works with recent versions of IE, Netscape, Mozilla, and Safari.  The only requirement is that you have Javascript enabled. To install it, do the following, depending on the browser you have: For IE 5.5 and above users: Right click on one of the links above, and then click on "Add to Favorites..."  Since there's some Javascript in the bookmark, IE will tell you that "You're adding a favorite that may not be safe."  Click OK, and you're done, it is in your favorites. For Netscape 6 and above and Mozilla 1.0 and above users: Drag the link into your bookmark bar.  Alternatively, you can right click on the link and then click on "Add bookmark".  For Safari users: Drag the link into your bookmark bar. That's it!  I hope you enjoy it.  I like it better than the Technorati Sidebar I created a while back, and the instant gratification...

And as I'm waiting for the my lowly box to crank through a WAV to MP3 conversion of tonight's (last night's) killer interview with Loren Schorenberg, I'm reading my news feed and Dave Sifry posts. And I install the bookmarklet and click it. Only Dave is linking to himself right now. I wonder who else will be linking soon. Maybe I'll show up as the first?
