Here's a guy, Forrest Egan, doing some great digital astrophotography using a Nikon 995 camera, and some software called Image Plus for sharpening and expanding the raw images. Unfortunately that software does not run on a Mac.
I especially like Forrest's image of the Sword of Orion. I'm going to go out and shoot some stars myself.
