Very strange. My browser (IE) just decided on its own to drop the status bar at the bottom. When I went to reset it, I found that a new toolbar has been installed that is an advertisement for this magazine (it links to this page with an advertisement). Suck. How this happened I do not know. [John Robb's Radio Weblog]
This is one thing I hate about windows, a lot of its technical advances are rendered useless by the way they can be abused. I have a friend that runs windows with all the ActiveX warnings activated to avoid this kind of situations. His browsing is a pain in the mouse.

Democracy vs. Guns
In these espectacular pictures from Tal Cual we see the contrasting reality of yesterday events. On the one hand, a group asking for a referendum with two million signatures to back them up. In the other, the stupid fear of votes and the violence of the guns. This is dedicated to the assholes that think the police was the one shooting. As they said in the newspaper this is result of the preaching of violence that the government have used throughout this years. Now they have lost control of it. Soon enough it will be directed to them as the disenfranchise discover they have been used and turn the guns to the hands that gave the guns...

Mitnick's 'Lost Chapter' Found. The first chapter of hacker Kevin Mitnick's new book was omitted from the print version by the publisher. It mysteriously showed up online over the weekend. By Michelle Delio. [Wired News]
The book The Art of Deception is very good, but this chapter is even better. At last, the truth about Kevin is told by kevin himself. How the system was abused by a wrong-headed reporter and overzealous government officials. What a waste of taxpayer money! By the way, I have the chapter if anyone wants it just tell me and I will put it online...
By the way, here is Kevin Mitnick's girlfriend blog. The closest he'll get to a computer until January 21 next year, I can't wait!
By the way, Free Kevin!

As part of Universal Access in Jaguar is the great new Zoom capability.Because
all drawing in Mac OS X is based on a compositing graphics system, you can magnify
the screen with great performance (especially on Quartz Extreme compatible systems)
that also works with all media types and applications. What does that mean?
Well, you can magnify the screen while animation, digital video and even DVD
is playing on your screen. This is another stunning example of how the Mac is
leveraging some of the incredible technology underpinnings found in Mac OS X.

In this same panel you can set your display to Grayscale and/or Black on White (which is the Command-Control-Option-8 tip I gave earlier).

The built-in screen saver in Jaguar (now called Screen Effects) includes
a new default effect called Flurry. Flurry was one of
the most popular screen saver downloads for 10.1 so we were thrilled to
be able to include it and make it the default in 10.2.

Very neat! It won't work on my TiBook with an external monitor, but it looks excellent in the LCD display...

A federal judge approved what some commentators have mocked
as the "Seattlement" of the Microsoft antitrust case; the
judge rejected arguments by nine states attorneys general
that real punishments and reforms be imposed on the company,
which was found guilty of being an illegal monopoly. [From Harper's Weekly]

The Left Dumbs Down. The intelligent left is debasing and marginalizing itself by marshaling epithets rather than arguments. By Nicholas D. Kristof. [New York Times: Opinion]
The left dumb down years ago. It used to be that most intelligent and coherent writers were left leaning. Now, it is more varied and the left has lost that peculiar, significant voice that used to distinguished it from the right. Plus, the right has won some voices that are hard to ignore. As the late Rodney O. Lain used to say: I grew up a liberal. I became a conservative in college, and now I'm a thinking person.
