Review: EyeTV [Slashdot]

I want one, I want one, I want one...

Bluetoooth still sucks. Bob Frankston explains why Bluetooth still sucks: it's all about the connectivity.

We should learn from the example of X.400. X.400 was (is?) a mail protocol approved and required by essentially all the telecommunication agencies throughout the world. It was designed over a period of ten years yet failed against SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) which could be implemented in an afternoon. Like x.400, the Bluetooth was designed and promulgated before anyone could learn from the first generation. Bluetooth is designed to work in the specific cases imagined by its designers and thus will perform very well in precisely those scenarios and these are the scenarios touted in press releases. It's not surprising that if you don't use Bluetooth precisely as envisioned it will not work very well. There is a tendency to view these problems as anomalies and those of us who point them out are considered spoilers and are thus discounted.

I can't even start to tell you how wrong this is. People keep looking at Bluetooth as an internet technology because that is what Micro$ucks has done with it. Look around, look at what Apple is doing. Watch Steve Jobs MacWorld Keynote and then tell me why Bluetooth sucks. It's not an USB replacement either. Is a new why to connect to old devices, providing new ways to use it. Don't think printers, think phones and palmtops. Think about using them without taking them out of your pocket.

I'm not so happy with another article at The Devil's Excrement (He sure wrote up a storm today!). My problem with economic arguments about The Failure of the left is that they always leave out the interesting fact that most of the world's seven most industrialized nations have protectionist and leftist policies in place. They mention Malasia and other Asian nations, they mention Chile. But they don't mention Italy, Spain, Brazil, Germany and, my favorite, France. Even the US will protect industries when need arise. To me this countries show that labels (left, neo-liberal, right, communist) are worthless. Policies either work or they don't. You can make progress only when ideology doesn't cloud the analysis of your own situation. There are no magic pills. Venezuela has always gotten the worst of all worlds. The government controls the most profitable industries and the workers have no real protection against anything.

Another good article at The Devil's Excrement pointing out that this is the First violent day while Cesar Gaviria is here. My brother is right to point out how the government is loosing face and control of its violent forces. I predict that it won't be long since this kind of violence is directed at the presidential palace instead of the mayor's. Raise crows and they'll take your eyes out, a popular saying in Venezuela.

Article on Venezuela's intelligence agency is funny and tragic at the same time.

An article in the Miami Herald describes well what has happened to the Government's intelligence police under Chavez. While it may seem funny at first glance, it becomes tragic when one realizes that this is just one example of what Chavez has done to the Government structure in Venezuela.

[The Devil's Excrement]

It has been suggested that Chavez would do well to hire the Keystone Cops instead of DISIP and DIM.
