The 12 Days of Boingboing: Day One - bOINGbOING blingbling. Now
that Buy Nothing Day is over, it's time to melt some plastic. When you cash
that fat check you're getting from the investment deal with Mobutu Sese Seko's
widow, don't spend it all on one website. Instead, consider the following geek
luxuries for your holiday shopping list. (pricerange key: $ = starts at around
a hundred bucks, $$$$ = at least one G.)
(1) Catrina Gregory jewelry:
hot metal for men and women. Silver, gold, and platinum. My fave: double
happiness knuckle ring, at left. ($-$$$$)
(2) Christian Dior
iPod case: Excessive and essential. Hedi Slimane designed this sleek leather
case for the world's coolest portable digital music device. Buy online at colette.fr
or dior.com. ($$)
(3) Zero-Halliburton
laptop cases: Drop 'em from a plane, loaded, and your notebook would probably
survive. Durable, functional, sexy. ($$$)
(4) Casio
Elixim Digital Camera: Adorably anorexic digital camera. Very pocket-sized.
($$)
(5) Paintings
by Miltos Manetas: Still-lifes of laptops, joysticks, or neurotic heaps
of cables and routers. Manetas is a visionary. His large-scale works on canvas
will change the way you feel about technology and your relationship to it. This
one hangs in my room. This
is another favorite, and so is the one depicting two Playstations as Madonna
and Child (shown at left).($$$$)

Electoral Commission approves referendum four to one. The Comision Nacional Electoral (CNE) which makes all electoral decisions voted today by four to one to hold a referendum on Feb. 2nd. to ask the people if they want President Hugo Chavez to voluntarily resign. Earlier teh vote had been thre to one, which the Supreme Court in a very concoluted argument had said was not legal as four of the five possible votes were needed. [The Devil's Excrement]

The planes we saw earlier were for a practice. December 10 is National Air Force day... and they don't see any reason to stop it...

I've received a couple of bets that the Coup is today... Do I have any takers? Is there a site like that on the Internet? Where you can bet about any event even immediate ones...
More Tear gas is being thrown to the people that were gathering in front of the Military Air base in La Carlota... Why did they let people gather there in the first place?
No member from the government has talked this afternoon...

I confess. I have no idea what is happening. The National Guard has retired from its position in the made-up Security Zone. Where are they going? Are they returning to Fuerte Tiuna? Are they going to Miraflores? (That's the direction they seem to be going). If that's the case... Why are they going there? To protect? To attack? Man, I wish I could tell you something...

When I travel I like to read The NY Times and The Economist cover to cover. This time the most bizarre story was about North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. He's like a character out of Atlas Shrugged. While his people starve eating dirt and tree bark, he leads a train across Russia, flying in delicacies and prostitutes. He says African countries exaggerate their AIDS cases to help them get more money from from the west. I guess he should know. [Scripting News]
We will read similar stories about Chavez and his co-conspirators... We will read of the excesses and thievery that they performed in just a few years of useless power...

El Honor ni se Divisa Pt. III
Today the situation is boiling in Caracas... So many events. The National Guard is not capable of controlling the absolute disorder they themselves have put the city in. They attacked as many pacific marches as they could without any excuse deeper that The reporters were attacking us... What cowards! They are afraid of what? Words, TV Cameras?

Government represses peaceful gathering with tear gas. The National Guard just dispersed a peaceful gathering of PDVSA oil workers who were gathering to support one of the Mangers of the comnpany whose house was assaulted last night. There were kids, women and people listening to speeches when the attack took place. The strike will now continue and the stupid action by the Government might simply be the catalyst that was needed. Where is Jimmy Carter, Cesar Gaviria, Human Rights Watch? Fools!!!
[The Devil's Excrement]
I believe the government is making every effort for this strike to be extended. They know there is weakness there... Difficult to see the dark side is, as Yoda would say.

Win2k Cheaper than Linux [Slashdot]
I know! Once, Win2k took me out for dinner and when the bill show up it just excuse itself to bathroom! I never saw it again! Linux, on the other hand pay for everything, even Champagne, and was a gentleman all the time... I think
