Clashes Escalate in Caracas as Protesters Seek to Block Highways. CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Police fired rubber bullets into apartment buildings and tear gas into the streets Monday, after protesters demanding President Hugo Chavez resign blocked highways and roads and threw stones at police in several Caracas neighborhoods. By The Associated Press. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

I'm watching the images, but I confess that I do not understand what I'm seeing. The National Guard has given up one of the post of the Metropolitan Police. The situation in Caracas has changed drastically in the last few hours. Right now we are looking at a popular uprising similar to the uprising of Paris in 1968. History teaches us that no government survives these types of uprising, the two possible answers, resignation or agression, ends in two similar ends, sooner or later... What would be the point of ending any chance of a political future? It's a wake up call to any Chávez supporter... If you really think your ideals are worth fighting for, this is the time to back up... Live to fight another day!

Venezuelan Chief Says He's Weathering Crisis. President Hugo Chávez said on Sunday that he would consider resigning if Venezuela was embroiled by violence, but asserted he was bringing the national strike under control. By Juan Forero. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

He is lying. The country is in a standstill. They can't ship food, because the ports are closed... Even now there are protests all over the city, street closing and pot banging. What he wants is violence...
